Helping People Is My Passion
One the things that successful entrepreneurs must continuously do, is ask themselves one question, what drives me to do what I do? Without knowing the answer to this question, it’s possible for you to lose focus or worse than that, loose the passion that motivated you to start your business in the first place.
One the things that successful entrepreneurs must continuously do, is ask themselves one question, what drives me to do what I do? Without knowing the answer to this question, it’s possible for you to lose focus or worse than that, loose the passion that motivated you to start your business in the first place. Honestly, I have struggled with this scenario from time to time, because I have allowed myself to fit nicely into a box, where honestly I don’t belong. What I mean is, if you ask most people, what is the purpose of having a business, they would tell you, it’s to make a profit, because otherwise you can’t have a sustainable business. I also believe that one of the tenets of running a business is to make a profit, but not to the extent, of losing the passion that drove you to start your business.
I compare my sentiments about business to when I started investing in the stock market over ten years ago. At first, I was fixated on making money, but I had no chance of doing that, because I had very little knowledge of how the stock market worked, and my new business venture started with the market crash of 2008. I initially made a $3000.00 investment in a stock that I was familiar with, but by the end of six months that stock had been reduced to 200.00 dollars. I obviously felt horrible, because I had never had that much money at one time in my life before, and to see it decrease on a daily basis in front of my eyes was devastating.
Then something happened, in the mist of losing almost of my money, I started to learn about the stock market, and in a very authentic way, learning about the stock market became a passion of mine. The countless hours that I spent reading magazines, watching videos, reading financial newspapers, and watching financial shows every day, gave me a sense of confidence that if I stuck with it, and didn’t sell my stocks at a $ 2800.00 loss, I could learn a life altering lesson, and maybe if a miracle happened, if not now, maybe one day, I might actually make some money in the stock market.
Well, that is exactly what happened, I continued to learn about stocks and bonds and a miracle did happened. The stock that I owned that was on life support miraculously turned around, and over a ten-year period has returned a profit of over six figures. Without question, if I had not developed a passion for learning about investing, I would have never stuck around to enjoy the fruits of my newfound passion. I believe that this example is similar to what I am experiencing now as a new business owner. I believe it’s important that I remain driven, by my passion for what my business can do for others, and not for what my business can bring to me.
So then, you might ask how do I plan to actualize my philosophy, because as we all know, talk is cheap, and action is the fuel for ambition. Therefore, I will give the first ten people who email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, 1 free men’s shirt that we stock in our inventory, and this offer also includes free shipping.
